Pat King here today to share a few thoughts with you about toxins in your home.   I’ve been sharing some of this in the newsletters that I send you but I’ll dig into this topic a bit more in this post.

I’ve been using and sharing these green cleaners for over 30 years.

My initial introduction to Shaklee was through the nutrition and I thought very little about toxic cleaners.  About a year after I started my nutrition program, I decided to evaluate the earth friendly cleaners made by them.  I remember my first experience with Basic H. I had small children and washed my kitchen floor often.  I put some H in the bucket (not many bubbles), washed the floor and then poured the water out.  It looked like I hadn’t cleaned in a long time. That won me over! I decided to change brands as I ran out of what I was using.  We didn’t have any Kits back then.  I did however pack up a bunch of products from under my kitchen sink that had “skull and crossbones”.  I had young children, allergies and was prone to respiratory challenges so I decided they needed to go. I loved ridding myself of all that clutter as I realized I could use a few household products to replace them.

I later found out how much I didn’t know about cleaners and then chose to share that information with others.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

GET EDUCATED

Dangerous toxins

According to Dr. Herbert Needleman, Pediatrician and Professor at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center

“We are conducting a vast toxicologic experiment in our society, in which our children and our children’s children are the experimental subject”

This is definitely food for thought!

Are chlorine bleach, degreasers, glass cleaners, oven clea

Here are just a few of other chemicals that raise concern

Hazards of Sodium hydroxide, Hydrochloric acid and Butyl Cellosolve

So just how are cleaning products affecting your health?

The fact is that 60% of what we put on our skin, scalp or put our hands into is absorbed. Then our bodies have to figure out what to do with it or where it will store.  Making the decision to use safer products can lessen that burden on our bodies as well as creating a safer environment in our home for our entire family.

Child with inhaler -asthma

FACT: Some 20 million Americans have asthma

FACT:  Asthma rates in children under age five have increased more than 160% from 1980-1994

FACT:  Common household cleaners and appliances give off fumes, which can potentially increase the risk of children developing asthma

What you can look for in safe cleaning products?

  • Sustainable ingredients from natural sources
  • Biodegradable surfactants
  • Recyclable packaging
  • Recyclable wipes
  • Recyclable dryer sheets
  • No chlorine bleach
  • No phosphates
  • No nitrates
  • No borates
  • No volatile organic compounds (VOCs)

The safe toxin-free cleaners I recommend that meet the above criteria can be found in: The Get Clean Starter KitProducts in Get Clean Starter Kit

They are effective, save you $, reduce packaging waste, don’t dry out your skin, and clear a bunch of toxic clutter out of your life!

I love that the kit comes with the accessories and spray bottles you need to mix things properly. Experience has shown that if you have handy ways to mix and use these products, you will love using them!

I’ll look forward to hearing your results as you try them and make small (not really) changes in your healthy home!  You can contact me here with any questions you may have.

Wishing you a healthy home,

Pat
